  • It’s common for children to go through emotional ups and downs. Big feelings, behavior changes, and developmental shifts are all part of growing up.

  • In most cases, yes — parents are an important part of the process.

    For younger children, therapy often includes parent involvement, check-ins, or coaching. Children don’t grow in isolation, and supporting the family system helps create more lasting change.

    For older children and teens, we balance involvement with privacy. Your child needs space to build trust and speak openly, but we also keep parents informed about themes, goals, and ways to support progress at home.

    Our approach is collaborative, not secretive. We’ll talk with you about what involvement looks like based on your child’s age, developmental level, and needs.

    You won’t be left out — and your child won’t be put in the middle.

  • Each session should last about 55 minutes.

  • This will depend on the treatment plan you create with your therapist - but typically weekly of every 2 weeks is the standard frequency.

  • It’s completely normal for children — especially older kids and teens — to feel unsure or resistant about starting therapy.

    New experiences can feel uncomfortable, and many kids don’t yet have the language to explain why they’re hesitant. Resistance doesn’t mean therapy won’t work.

    We approach this gently. In early sessions, we focus on building rapport and helping your child feel safe — not pushing for deep conversations right away. Therapy often starts with connection before it moves into skill-building or processing.

    If your child is strongly opposed, we can also begin with a parent consultation. Sometimes small shifts at home can reduce pressure and help your child feel more open to participating.

    Our goal isn’t to force therapy — it’s to create a space where your child eventually feels comfortable choosing to engage.
